Margot Robbie has talked candidly about how her performance in "Barbie" went unnoticed for an Oscar consideration. Speaking on the nominations—which curiously did not include Greta Gerwig or her—and the ensuing social media uproar, Robbie said that Gerwig should have been honored in the Best Director category. Variety claims that Robbie said these things in a SAG-AFTRA conversation with her "Barbie" co-stars.
"Knowing how fortunate you are makes it impossible to be depressed. Naturally, I believe Greta ought to receive a director nomination. Her actions were once in a lifetime and once in a career. That's actually what she pulled off. However, Robbie expressed that "it's been an incredible year for all the films," adding that she is "beyond ecstatic" that her picture has been nominated for eight Oscars.
Eight categories have received nominations for "Barbie" in the Oscars. America Ferrera was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, and Ryan Gosling was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. The movie also received nominations for Best Picture, Best Original Song (for "I'm Not Alone"), Costume Design, Production Design, and Adapted Screenplay (which was written by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach).
"It's amazing that everyone is receiving nods; the best picture nod is among them. Our goal was to create a change in culture or at least have some form of effect on it. And it has already accomplished far more than we ever could have imagined. And it's really the greatest benefit that may arise from all of this. The most satisfying part of the whole process has been seeing how people have responded to the film."

I've done things with comic books before, and it gets a lot of response, but this seemed very different. It feels extremely different even now.
